Work orders

Other commonly used terminology includes jobs, items and tasks. We also use WO as short for work order.

Work order templates

These are also called standard work orders. A set of work orders that are frequently used, and as such standard templates are stored and made available for easy reuse.

This is a reference to the process of writing a specification.

Smart variables

Smart variables are variables that represent a specific piece of information. Smart variables are used when building templates, to make sure they are versatile and will automatically customise its content to fit the vessel, project or any other relevant information.

Daily reports

These are reports sent by the Superintendent (or whomever is running the project) to various stakeholders.

Activity updates

These are sent from workers, both external and internal workers, to the project and are status snapshots of specific work orders containing images, comments and a percentage progress. Activity updates are often also referred to as progress updates. Activity updates are not reports, instead they are one of the key data sources of the reports.

Variation orders

These are changes to the project scope made while the project is in the Execution stage (at the yard). Variation orders are also known as change orders.
